Carta de Domingo: La Hospitalidad de El Salvador y el Impacto Transformador de Rotary

Queridos compañeros Rotarios del Distrito 4240,
Mi visita a los clubes de El Salvador será una de esas experiencias que llevaré siempre en mi corazón. Los salvadoreños no solo tienen una hospitalidad que te hace sentir como en casa, sino que también te reciben como familia, con los brazos abiertos y una calidez que convierte a un compañero en un «brother».

Desde reuniones informales llenas de camaradería hasta visitas a proyectos que están cambiando vidas, cada encuentro fue una muestra del verdadero espíritu rotario.

Club Rotario de Santa Ana, Ciudad Heroica
El club me recibió con visitas a proyectos como la renovación del techo de la Escuela Cantón Flor Amarillo Abajo, asegurando un espacio seguro y adecuado para los estudiantes. También visitamos una cancha de fútbol en Ilanapetec, que brinda a los niños un lugar para el deporte y la unión comunitaria.

Club Rotario de Santa Ana
Este club marcó la diferencia en la Comunidad El Mojón, que durante 40 años ha luchado por agua potable. Con el apoyo del club y otras organizaciones, se instalaron una bomba y la conexión eléctrica, haciendo posible que 300 familias pronto disfruten de este recurso vital.

Club Rotario San Salvador Cuscatlán
El club más «cachimbón», como dirían en El Salvador, realizó la entrega de equipos médicos en la Clínica Parroquial Cristo Redentor. También destacó como un Club 100% Polio Plus gracias a su contribución anual de $100 por socio. Además, organizó un evento de recaudación en Surf City, Playa El Tunco, logrando fondos para 20 becas de $300 cada una, beneficiando a jóvenes en riesgo social a través del proyecto La Red.

Club Rotario de San Salvador
Decano de los clubes salvadoreños, me recibió con un desayuno ameno, donde dimos la bienvenida a dos nuevos socios. Su programa WASH nos llevó a visitar escuelas como El Coco en Chiltuipán y Santo Domingo, donde también entregaron lentes como parte de su programa educativo.

Club Rotario de Santa Tecla
Este club me recibió con una cálida velada en la que compartimos su entusiasmo por programas como «Aprender Jugando», enfocados en la educación a través del juego.

Club Rotario San Salvador Noroeste
En una reunión llena de camaradería, este club presentó su proyecto de agua en el Distrito Tepecoyo, que beneficiará a miles de personas. Además, visitamos Talnique, donde apoyan un proyecto de vivienda con el respaldo de clubes rotarios de EE. UU.

Club Rotario Ciudad Merliot-Santa Tecla
Un club pujante que me dio uno de los regalos más significativos de esta gira: la formación de dos Clubes Interact y un nuevo Club Rotaract. También están trabajando en un proyecto de vivienda en Ataco, transformando la vida de muchas familias salvadoreñas.

Club Rotario San Salvador Sur
En un almuerzo ameno, el club nos llevó al Monumento Rotario, donde tomamos fotos antes de entregar zapatos a niños del Hogar Casa de Vida. Este club, por segundo año consecutivo, es un Club 100% Polio Plus.

Club Rotario San Salvador Maquilishuat
Este club me recibió con un desayuno lleno de entusiasmo. Su enfoque en proyectos de salud y educación, como giras médicas y programas escolares, es admirable.

Club Rotario Chaparrastique San Miguel
Con gran entusiasmo, compartimos un almuerzo alegre con sus fundadores. Sus proyectos incluyen apoyo a la Casa del Peregrino, el Divino Niño Jesús, la Escuela Ofelia Campos de Castrellón y el Asilo San Antonio.

Club Rotario San Miguel Ciudad Jardín
Tuve una reunión inolvidable frente al mar con su presidente. Desde este punto, se pueden divisar Nicaragua y Honduras, un escenario ideal para conversar sobre su trabajo comunitario, como la entrega de juguetes en el Día del Niño.

Club Rotario San Miguel Decano
Este club celebró su 83° aniversario durante mi visita, homenajeando a ciudadanos destacados y dando la bienvenida a dos nuevos socios. Sus proyectos incluyen apoyo al Hospital San Juan de Dios y al Hospital Josefino Vilaseca, con insumos y telas para confección de sábanas.

Club Rotario Siramá-San Miguel
Con una cálida cena, compartimos momentos especiales mientras conocíamos su trabajo, como la entrega de lentes en San Alejo, beneficiando a más de 3,000 personas. También sembraron 75 árboles en la región.

Clubes Rotaract de El Salvador
El entusiasmo de los jóvenes Rotaractianos fue palpable. Dedicar tiempo para dialogar con ellos fue un recordatorio del potencial que tienen para liderar y transformar comunidades en el futuro.

Quiero agradecer a mis asistentes, José Roberto, Mauricio, Salvador y Doris, por la impecable organización de cada visita. Mi especial gratitud a la Gobernadora Nominada, Antonieta, y a mis anfitriones Mauricio Méndez, Yansy, «Gasparín», David Parada y Mirna, quienes me hicieron sentir como en casa.

Por último, participar en el Carnaval de San Miguel, el más grande de Centroamérica, fue un cierre perfecto para esta gira. Gracias, El Salvador, por todo lo que me han enseñado sobre el servicio, la amistad y el impacto transformador de Rotary.

Sunday Letter: The Hospitality of El Salvador and the Transformative Impact of Rotary

Dear Rotarian Friends of District 4240,
My visit to the Rotary clubs of El Salvador is an experience I will carry in my heart forever. Salvadorans are not only warm and hospitable, but they also welcome you as family, turning a fellow Rotarian into a «brother.»

From informal gatherings filled with camaraderie to visits to impactful projects, each moment demonstrated the true Rotarian spirit of service and fellowship.

Rotary Club of Santa Ana, Heroic City
This club welcomed me with visits to impactful projects, such as the roof renovation of the Flor Amarillo Abajo School, ensuring a safe and suitable environment for its students. We also visited a football field in Ilanapetec, providing children with a space for sports and community bonding.

Rotary Club of Santa Ana
The club made a lasting impact in El Mojón, a community that had been fighting for potable water for 40 years. With the club’s support and assistance from other organizations, a water pump and electrical connection were installed, and soon 300 families will have access to clean water.

Rotary Club of San Salvador Cuscatlán
Known as the most «awesome» club, they delivered medical equipment to the Cristo Redentor Parish Clinic. They also stood out as a 100% Polio Plus Club, thanks to their annual $100-per-member contributions. Additionally, they organized a successful fundraiser in Surf City, Playa El Tunco, raising funds for 20 scholarships of $300 each to support at-risk youth through La Red, a transformative project.

Rotary Club of San Salvador
As the oldest Rotary club in El Salvador, they welcomed me with a delightful breakfast, during which we inducted two new members. Their WASH program led us to visit schools such as El Coco in Chiltuipán and Santo Domingo, where they also delivered eyeglasses as part of an educational initiative.

Rotary Club of Santa Tecla
This club hosted a wonderful evening where we discussed their inspiring program, «Learning Through Play,» which focuses on education through interactive methods.

Rotary Club of San Salvador Northwest
In a lively meeting, this club shared their water project in the Tepecoyo District, benefiting thousands of people. We also visited Talnique, where they support a housing project in collaboration with Rotary clubs from the USA.

Rotary Club of Ciudad Merliot-Santa Tecla
This thriving club gave me one of the most meaningful gifts of this tour: the formation of two Interact Clubs and a new Rotaract Club. They are also working on a housing project in Ataco, transforming the lives of many Salvadoran families.

Rotary Club of San Salvador South
After a warm lunch, the club took us to the Rotary Monument for photos, followed by the distribution of shoes to children at Casa de Vida. This club has been a 100% Polio Plus Club for two consecutive years.

Rotary Club of San Salvador Maquilishuat
This club greeted me with an enthusiastic breakfast. They focus on health and education projects, including medical missions and school initiatives.

Rotary Club of Chaparrastique San Miguel
With great enthusiasm, I shared a joyful lunch with the club’s founders. Their projects include supporting the Pilgrim’s House, the Divine Child Jesus School, the Ofelia Campos de Castrellón School, and the San Antonio Nursing Home.

Rotary Club of San Miguel Ciudad Jardín
I had an unforgettable meeting with the club president by the sea, enjoying a breathtaking view of Nicaragua and Honduras while discussing their community aid projects, such as distributing toys for Children’s Day.

Rotary Club of San Miguel Decano
During my visit, the club celebrated its 83rd anniversary by honoring outstanding citizens in education, business, medicine, and other fields. They also welcomed two new members and highlighted their support for San Juan de Dios Hospital and Josefino Vilaseca Hospital, where they provide supplies and materials for sheets made by local nuns.

Rotary Club of Siramá-San Miguel
The club shared a memorable dinner while highlighting their work, such as distributing eyeglasses to over 3,000 people in San Alejo in collaboration with Eye Care International. They also planted 75 trees in the region.

Rotaract Clubs of El Salvador
The energy and enthusiasm of these young leaders were inspiring. Taking the time to listen to their ideas and challenges reminded me of the bright future they hold in leading and transforming their communities.

I must express my gratitude to my assistants—José Roberto, Mauricio, Salvador, and Doris—for their outstanding coordination during this tour. A special thanks to Governor Nominee Antonieta and my hosts, Mauricio Méndez, Yansy, «Gasparín,» David Parada, and Mirna, who opened their homes not only to me but also to Past District Governors visiting for the San Miguel Carnival float.

Lastly, participating in the San Miguel Carnival, the largest in Central America, was the perfect way to close this extraordinary journey. Thank you, El Salvador, for teaching me so much about service, friendship, and the transformative impact of Rotary.
